Southwest Florida Figure Skating Club relies on volunteers to support skaters of all ages and coaches as they participate in figure skating at both the competitive and recreational levels. Time donated keeps costs down and ensures the continued growth and success of our club. Parental involvement is a win/win for our skaters and helps everyone have a more positive experience in the sport of figure skating.

How to Get Involved?

Club members are required to fulfill a minimum of 15 hours a year to remain in good standing. Throughout the year we have many opportunities to serve:

In addition, a NCSI Background Check is necessary ($30 processing fee). This is a mandatory requirement from USFS for all volunteers. Please see section below for more details in SafeSport and NCSI Background Check.

SafeSport & NCSI Background Check Information

All skating families should consider participating in the SafeSport certification. We are required to take online training courses as part of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee. Southwest Florida Figure Skating (SWFFSC) is our figure skating club or professional sports organization and all coaches and volunteers are REQUIRED to participate in the training for the benefit of our parents and youth.

In order to prevent abuse in sport, it begins with awareness and how to recognize the red flags of emotional, physical and sexual misconduct, and then what to do if abuse does occur. The SafeSport™ Certification is a 90-minute core course which covers the following topics in-depth and provide a pre-and post-testing component:
* Mandatory Reporting
* Sexual Misconduct Awareness Education
* Emotional and Physical Misconduct

These online training courses are designed as an introduction for minor athletes and their parents or other caregivers to understand the importance of positive, welcoming environments in sports, where misconduct like bullying or abuse is less likely to happen, and to know where to report abuse, should it occur. Each course requires that a parent/legal guardian create an account to provide consent for their child to access the training. Once an account is created, parents can choose which course is best for their child based on their actual or developmental age. Each course will take less than 30 minutes to complete.
